Tonight brings to a close another long & arduous tennis year, with the tour ending ATP world tour finals being played between the world number one Novak Djokovic and number two Roger Federer at London’s O2 arena. For the first time in many years 2012 brought us 4 different winners of the grand slam titles and 2013 threatens to be even closer again with the rise of Andy Murray and the impressive Juan Martin Del Potro improving with each contest against the elite. For now though the last word will be from this year’s best with Djokovic a 1.60 favourite to take the title over Federer who is the 2.60 outsider.

Surprisingly this is only the fourth time in the 43 year history of the year-end tournament that seeds one & two meet in the final. Head to head Djokovic leads the rivalry 16-12 with the ledger squared at 2-2 in season 2012. Incredibly Federer has won this title six times defeating the likes of Agassi, Hewitt, Ferrer, Nadal and Tsonga in the process. Djokovic was always going to find it harder to finish on top this year because he accumulated so many points from season 2011 the task was difficult to defend however he has been ultra-consistent throughout the year. After winning in Australia he finished runner up to Nadal in Paris and has constantly done enough throughout the year to ensure he will finish the year as the number 1 ranked player for the second year straight regardless of the result tonight.

Federer was superb against Murray last night winning in straight sets and taking the crowd out of the match whereas Djokovic had to fight much
longer earlier in the day against Del Potro to win in 3 sets.

Significantly all the key head to head stats for me point towards an upset here – Federer is the king of the indoor game holding a 3-1 record over
Djokovic. In the best of three set matches Federer leads 9-7 and in grand slam matches it is 6-5 to Federer. Expect both players to come out firing in what should be a great match for the spectators with no energy left on court.

Two best bets
